Abstract

Islamic normative construction has positioned the Qur’an as an authoritative source that perfected the teachings of previous monotheism. It contains all religious discourses (al-khithâb ad-dîniy), both in the divine discourse (ulûhiyyah), life after death or eschatology (al-ma‘âd), prophethood (an-nubuwwah), to humanity (al-insâniyâh). Every activity of disclosing religious discourse pivots in understanding the content of the Qur’anic meaning through interpretive activities. No doubt, the first Islam was very intertwined with the effort to embody the message of al-Haqq through the activities of the Alquran interpretation. Given the importance of the Alquran position in Muslim religiosity, this research attempts to trace the basic fundamentals of religiosity.  This goal is done by elaborating on the ontological status of the Qur’an in the framework of the language philosophy, then mapping the history of the development of the characteristics of interpretive nomenclature based on the results of the ontological tracking of the Qur’an. While the method used to examine these issues uses a framework of language philosophy that cannot be denied to be God’s medium of speech to humanity. Through this kind of study, it is expected that the reviewers of the Qur’an can understand and analyze critically the differences in the characteristics of nomenclature interpretation throughout the history of Muslims struggling with the Qur’an.
