Abstract

This article discusses the educational thoughts of Syed Muhammad Naquib al-Attas. The results of the study show that Syed Muhammad Naquib Al-Attas has the view that education is a process of inculcating something in human beings. Al-Attas argues that the correct term for Islamic education is ta'dib, not tarbiyah or ta'lim. According to him, the structure of the ta'dib concept already includes the elements of knowledge ('ilm), instruction (ta'lim) and good coaching (tarbiyah). Adab is the discipline of body, soul and spirit. Discipline that emphasizes the recognition and recognition of the right place in relation to physical, intellectual and spiritual abilities and potential. Syed Muhammad Naquib Al-Attas is of the view that the educational curriculum includes three important things, namely about science and the hierarchy of knowledge; emphasis on sincerity, patience, and honesty; and the authority and position of the teacher.
